Viagra Boys won four prestigious Swedish Grammis awards
On Wednesday, April 29, Sweden’s annual Grammis music awards were handed out. Among the winners, Zara Larsson stood out with two awards, while Viagra Boys dominated with four titles.
Post-punk band Viagra Boys emerged as the biggest winner of this year’s Grammis gala, taking home a total of four trophies. This marks one of the most significant recognitions of the band’s career in their home country. The group received top honors in the categories of Album of the Year, Rock Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Producer of the Year. In the lyricist category, the main credit went to the band’s frontman Sebastian Murphy, while the producer award went to Pelle Gunnerfeldt, who is behind the band’s distinctive sound and production.
Viagra Boys’ rapid rise from the Swedish alternative scene to international prominence in recent years has been remarkable. Their music blends punk, post-punk, and alternative rock, incorporating elements of jazz and electronic music. The band’s work is defined by ironic and socially critical lyrics, a combination that has steadily expanded their audience across Europe and the United States.
Estonian audiences won’t have to wait long to experience the band’s intense and unpredictable live energy. Viagra Boys will perform on July 3–4 at Tartu Punch, a new international festival taking place at the Tartu Song Festival Grounds, where they are among the headliners.
In 2003, Estonian conductor Neeme Järvi also won a Swedish Grammis award together with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in the category of Classical Ensemble of the Year.
